Michael Bierut Visual Essay

As I approached the end of my university study, I was tasked with creating a critical essay on a designer in professional practice. For this assignment, I chose Michael Bierut as my role model and produced a visual essay book that reflected on the designer’s work and practice.

For the visual direction, I used Bierut’s design works, sketches, and photographs as the ‘hero images’ throughout the content pages. I also used a neutral colour palette to create a reader-friendly layout for the written content, with orange as an accent colour to attract attention and highlight important keywords and aspects. Together, these elements help readers engage with and understand Bierut’s design practice through an intuitive visual experience.
